Remain – Week 2 | The Vine: What It Actually Means to Abide | Pastor Daniel Kolson

🕊️ What if abiding in Jesus is not a spiritual achievement… but a place to live?

In Week 2 of the Remain series, Pastor Daniel Kolson takes a deep and practical look at one of the most important teachings of Jesus in John 15:

“I am the vine; you are the branches.”

This message moves beyond vague ideas about “spending time with God” and asks a deeper question:

What does it actually mean to abide?

Jesus spoke these words on the night before the cross.

Not strategy.

Not ministry plans.

Not success.

A vine.

Because Jesus knew the disciples would need more than information to survive what was coming. They would need connection.

This sermon explores the meaning of the Greek word meno — to remain, dwell, stay, and make your home in. Through the writings of Dallas Willard, Andrew Murray, John Mark Comer, and the teachings of Jesus, Pastor Daniel shows that abiding is not about striving harder for God, but learning to live from a place of connection, love, and dependence on Christ.

The branch does not produce fruit through pressure.

It produces fruit by staying connected to the Vine.

And in a culture built on distraction, exhaustion, performance, and compartmentalized faith, Jesus still offers the same invitation:

Remain in Me.

📖 Key Scriptures:

John 15:1–11 – “I am the true vine…”

John 15:9 – “Remain in my love.”

John 3:16–18 – The meaning of true belief

Matthew 7:22–23 – “I never knew you.”

Colossians 3:3 – “Your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

💬 Highlighted Quotes:

“Abiding is not a spiritual achievement. It is a location.”

“The branch does not generate life. The branch receives life.”

“You cannot abide part-time.”

“The disciplines are not the destination—they are the doorway.”
