GO – Week 5 | The Disciples He Made: Multiplication, Not Just Addition | Pastor Daniel Kolson

🕊️ What if Jesus never intended us to simply be disciples—but to make disciples?

Throughout the GO series, we’ve looked at the gospel Jesus preached, the compassion He carried, the power He released, and the words He spoke.

But when Jesus left the earth, what did He actually leave behind?

He didn’t leave a building.

He didn’t leave an organization.

He left people.

Jesus spent the majority of His ministry investing deeply in a small group of ordinary people who would eventually do the same for others.

Jesus wasn’t simply building a crowd. He was building people who could build people.

In Week 5 of GO, Pastor Daniel Kolson explores Jesus’ model of discipleship and why the Great Commission is ultimately a disciple-making commission.

Jesus called His disciples first to be with Him and then to be sent by Him.

They watched Jesus minister.

Then He let them try.

They succeeded.

They failed.

He corrected them.

He restored them.

And eventually He entrusted the mission to them.

That’s discipleship.

It isn’t simply transferring information. It’s allowing someone close enough to your life that they can learn how you follow Jesus.

And it was always meant to multiply.

Paul discipled Timothy and then told Timothy to entrust what he had received to faithful people who would teach others also.

Four generations of disciples in a single verse.

Addition asks:

“How many people can I reach?”

Multiplication asks:

“How many people can the people I reach, reach?”

You don’t need a seminary degree or a ministry title to disciple someone. You don’t have to have everything figured out.

You simply need to be walking with Jesus and willing to bring someone with you.

📖 Key Scriptures:

● Matthew 28:18–20 – Jesus commands us to go and make disciples of all nations.

● Mark 3:14 – Jesus called the twelve first to be with Him and then to be sent.

● Luke 6:40 – A fully trained disciple becomes like his teacher.

● 2 Timothy 2:2 – Discipleship multiplying through generation after generation.

● 1 Thessalonians 2:8 – Sharing not only the gospel, but our lives with others.

💬 Highlighted Quotes:

● “Jesus was never building a crowd. He was building people who could build people.”

● “Addition adds to what you have. Multiplication changes what is possible.”

● “Being with Him came first. Sending came second.”

● “Failure was part of the training, not the end of it.”

● “The assignment is disciples.”

● “Discipleship costs you your life, not your expertise.”

● “You have not finished discipling someone until they are discipling someone.”

● “We are witnesses who reproduce.”

🌟 Key Themes:

● Making disciples

● Multiplication instead of addition

● Becoming like Jesus

● Discipleship through relationship and proximity

● The Great Commission

● Equipping ordinary believers for ministry

● Learning through both success and failure

● Sharing our lives, not simply information

● Raising up people who raise up others

● Passing our faith to the next generation

The chain of discipleship has continued for two thousand years because ordinary people decided to bring someone with them.

Now it’s our turn.

Who is one step behind you that you can invest in?

And who is one step ahead of you that you can learn from?

Don’t overcomplicate it.

Invite someone into your life.

Walk with Jesus together.

Then teach them to do the same.
